Gizmo Engineering is the product of my frustration trying to control processes when the equipment didn’t exist.  The first such product was the drum level alarm which simply had to alarm to let operators know when a drum ran empty. In printed circuit board etching, if the drum runs dry, the tank precipitates out of solution and takes a day or two to clean up the mess. (by operators wearing full-face respirators because of the hot ammonia fumes)  So I looked for a drum alarm and since there wasn’t one available, I made my own. This was the start of Gizmo Engineering.

After producing a few of these at the PCB shop I worked at, a chemical sales rep. saw them and thought another one of his customers could benefit from the drum alarms. So I made some in my basement and sold them.  This moment in 2007 when Gizmo Engineering was born.

Since then the drum alarm has gone on to be a staple in industry and almost every company has at least one.  I continued to develop many other products. In every case, the products meet some need that is not addressed in the marketplace. In every case they are meticulously designed to economical while robust at the same time.

An example of this is the CDG product which uses a 3D printed enclosure. If we purchased and enclosure on the open market the cost would be $50 for the unusual shape.  The 3D version costs us about $3 in material and is equal in quality.  At the same time, it prevents assembly errors and the product can be assembled in a fraction the time since there is no machining necessary.  Our relentless pursuit of intelligent product design, and manufacturing efficiencies is what allows us to sell very high quality products at very reasonable prices.
